So you have noticed that someone close to you is feeling stressed and overwhelmed. Experiencing stress is a normal part of our lives. A small amount of stress when attempting a challenge can actually be helpful. It can lead to increased alertness, energy and productivity. On the flipside a complete lack of stress can lead to reduced motivation and performance.
This works well for short-term challenges but if the stress response goes on for too long, it can have damaging effects on the mind and body. Beyond Blue identifies four steps for supporting friends. Look for signs; Listen to your friend’s experiences; Talk about what’s going on; and Seek help together.
