Sport

Riverside fosters the love and enjoyment of an active lifestyle by encouraging students to participate in competitive and non-competitive sports whether it be at local or international level. The school has a proud history of outstanding sporting achievements, particularly at metropolitan north level and is currently champion girls school in swimming, cross country and athletics.

Every year in September we recognise the sporting achievements of our students in an assembly.

Whole school sport

Students in Years K-10 participate in planned physical activity across the school week.

Year 7 and 8 sport is integrated into the PDHPE program. In term 3 all Year 7 and 8 students participate in 'games day'. Students compete against schools in our zone in a range of sporting activities.

Year 9 in terms 1 and 4 select recreational sports such as badminton, self defence, yoga, zumba classes, gym fitness classes. In term 2 and 3 students have the opportunity to respresent Riverside in interschool competition, sports include netball, soccer, oztag, softball.

Year 10 participate in salsa dance, self defence and gym fitness which includes, step, spin, pump, yoga.

We also participate in competitions for the following sports: gymnastics, volleyball, basketball, netball, soccer, futsal, waterpolo, softball, hockey, tennis, sports aerobics, orienteering, touch football, triathlon, and skiing.

Compulsory school sport is integrated into the PE program for Years 7 and 8 students. Who also participate in a week long swimming, survival, lifesaving and resuscitation program.

Year 9 and 10 are offered leadership positions within these programs in the form of coaching and umpiring.

Year 9 students have the opportunity to participate in a range of recreational activities and also have the opportunity to represent the school in a zone grade sport competition. Year 10 participate in recreational and leisure activities that promote participation in lifelong physical and social activities.

Our volleyball program

Volleyball has become a leading sport at Riverside Girls. We train from yr 8, culminating in a team from yr 11 competing in the Australian schools volleyball cup every December in Melbourne. 

The amount of opportunities you get here are seriously endless, especially if you want to take up a new sport like I have with both trampolining and orienteering. Year 9 Student.

Carnivals

Swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals are mandatory school events held across the calendar year. Drummoyne pool, Riverglade reserve and Sydney Olympic athletics field at Homebush are our chosen venues. All students are required to attend these events and are encouraged to participate.
