Great news year 9

Firstly, the recent yr 9 camp was a great success and the students so very well behaved and involved in all activities. Thank you for supporting this camp and a big thank you to Ms Jamons for her organisation.

Also, some excellent academic news. Last year 56,997 students sat VALID 8, which tests students’ science skills.  We are very excited as the 2018 results are the best achieved at Riverside.

There has been continuous improvement in VALID results since 2015. In 2018, 26.4% of Riverside students scored in the top two bands of the test compared to 21.1% in the state. The Riverside average score of 92.33 (of 100) was well above the state av. score of 87.41.

Improvement was particularly strong in the extended response and ‘problem solving and communicating’ questions.

Also, one student achieved the fourth highest score in the state along with 8 other students, placing her in the top 15 in the state and another student achieved the fifth highest score, along with 30 other students, placing her in the top 50 students in the state.

The Science faculty is ecstatic to see the results of their programming for more problem solving and inquiry.  Congratulations to the Science team, led by Mr Bill Moran.

These results can also be attributed to the commitment to the STEM program in science, ICT (technology and entrepreneurship) and Mathematics in years 7 and 8. Congratulations to the team of committed teachers in these faculties.
