Congratulations to the Creative Arts and Performing Arts faculty for the Soiree, exhibiting HSC Visual Arts and performing HSC Music majorworks. The evening started with a flourish of excitement as guests realised the quality and diversity of work on display. There were far more films created than in previous years which looked fantastic on our big screen.
The People’s Choice awards was very close but went to this coloured pencil work by Jessica Huang. (main picture).
Also on display were the practical works for Design and Technology. The Design and Technology teachers avidly campaigned for a laser cutter, which was purchased at great cost, and then this year’s HSC works show just how fantastic an asset it is.
All TAS staff are trained to use it and Ms Abbott has shown how inspiring she has been in developing the confidence of HSC students to feature laser cutting in their major works.
This year’s Year 12 Design & Technology students embraced the school’s new laser cutting technologies with enthusiasm and fervour. The students created a diverse range of unique design solutions that showcased their innovative design skills and resulted in professionally finished major design projects. Their design solutions addressed real world issues including the need to reduce food wastage during shopping and transportation processes, providing custom designed flat pack cake plates, a sustainable café interior and a mobile environmental learning truck to educate young children about the importance of implementing sustainable living practices in their everyday lives.
The laser cutter was also used to create a vibrant tessellated wall clock and a stunning mixed materials gold and black light fitting. The students showed that they are true 21st century learners as they willingly sort out and developed their expertise with these new technologies.
